Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur took the third one-day international between India and Australia off.

The third and final One-Day International between India and Australia will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27 without Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur. They will probably go out to join the group in Guwahati. On September 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Team India will play their opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against the reigning champions, England.

With scores of fifty and one hundred, respectively, Shubman Gill proved crucial for India in the first two ODIs.

The 24-year-old batsman has so far hit five ODI century this year, including two against New Zealand and one each against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Australia. The highest ODI run-scorer in 2023, he has scored 1230 runs in 20 innings at an average of 72.35 runs per innings and a strike rate of 105.03.

On the other side, Shardul Thakur didn’t take a wicket in any of the ODIs. Additionally, the all-rounder was not given a chance to bat in the match.

The second ODI saw India defeat Australia by 99 runs.

In a second ODI disrupted by rain at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on September 24, Team India outperformed Australia by 99 runs utilising the DLS system. India secured the series with this victory, taking a commanding 2-0 lead.

Australia won the toss for the match and asked India to bat first. India set a 400-run goal for the visitors thanks to centuries from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. Along with them, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav made major contributions as well by each reaching half-centuries. All-rounder Cameron Green took two wickets for Australia.

After the second innings got underway, rain again played spoilsport, and when play was restarted, India set a revised target of 317 in 33 overs. As India dismissed Australia for 217 in 28.2 overs, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin each took three wickets. Australia’s top two scorers were David Warner and Sean Abbot, who each scored 53 and 54 runs.
