Shubman Gill didn’t mince words during the post-game press conference, shifting the burden to his team’s batters and himself for a subpar performance. Nevertheless, he said that the club needed to go on and handle things with grace, no matter how the game turned out. He further stressed that his dismissals, as well as those of Wriddhiman Saha and Sudharsan, provided unequivocal proof that the pitch did not hold any demons for batters. Gill went on to say that the breakdown occurred primarily as a result of poor shot selection.
Five of the six teams that competed scored well over 200 points over the previous three days, ahead of the match between the Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals. Match 32 of the IPL 2024, which was contested at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, was expected to follow the same pattern, with an unexpected inflow of dominant batting turning into the norm. “We didn’t have a great batting performance, but we have to go on. Despite our strong performance, we must put this game behind us and play with the same attitude in the next one. We must return it and give it another go. To be really honest, I thought the wicket was fine. The manner in which Wriddhi Bhai and I were out had nothing to do with the pitch, if you look at our dismissals. Sai ran out of time. Therefore, I don’t believe the pitch contained any errors. Shubman Gill expressed his frustration, saying, “I would say it was just a case of bad batting performance and poor shot selection.”
During their three years in the IPL, GT set an unwelcome record.
With their lowest score occurring in Match 32 of the IPL 2024 against the same opponent, GT has never finished below the 100-run threshold since their 2022 IPL debut. They did, however, record their lowest-ever IPL score in the just-ended game versus DC, which also happened to be the lowest-ever score to which DC has been able to hold the opponent in the 17-year tournament’s history.
