Shubman Gill accepts pay cut to keep Gujarat Titans' team core

In order to become the second player retained by the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Shubman Gill, the captain of the Gujarat Titans and a batter for Sta India, has decided to reduce his present salary. Gill gave up his position as GT’s top retainer ahead of the massive auctions for the IPL 2025 edition.

The last day to submit retentions to all teams is October 31, despite a number of rumours circulating. Teams have so begun to reveal their cards and show off their astute manoeuvres gradually. In the 2024 Indian Premier League, the Fazilika native was the captain of the Gujarat Titans. As of right now, the GT management and captain have pushed to retain the team’s key players.

Rashid Khan, a talisman for Afghanistan, would be the first player retained by the Gujarat-based team. Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan, who are uncapped, and the youthful Sai Sudharsan are probably going to be the other players kept. Additionally, the Titans will try to preserve the Right to Match card for the upcoming November 2024 IPL mega auctions.

According to India Today, an IPL insider stated that Gill has made the decision to reduce his salary in order to keep the core players and strengthen the squad.

Shubman Gill joined the Gujarat Titans from KKR in 2022.

Shubman Gill was purchased by the Gujarat franchise in 2022 for a whopping 8 crore. If the rumours are to be true, Rashid will now break the bank with GT in order to become their most expensive retained star player. Gill is still in the process, but it was still unclear how much of the pay cheque he was willing to deduct.

Given the new IPL regulations and retention terms, an IPL team will lose INR 18 crore of the 120 crore allocated for the first player, while the second player will receive INR 14 crore. The IPL franchise will have to pay INR 11 crore for the third player. A budget of INR four crore per player has also been allocated to teams for uncapped players.

Additionally, if an IPL team chooses to keep its top five players, they will probably lose INR 75 crore from the auction pool. According to the tournament’s governing board, the 100 crore total prize that was awarded last year has been raised by 20 crore for the upcoming season. Along with these new expenses, players will now receive performance-based raises, and their minimum match fees will be limited to INR 7.5 lakhs. All IPL teams are permitted to keep six items in total, including the RTM card.

When it comes to Shubman Gill’s experience, the handsome hitter has played in 125 IPL games. In these games, he averaged 37.83 and scored 3,216 runs. In addition, he maintained a strike rate of 129 while amassing 20 fifties and four hundreds.
