Shreyas Iyer batting against spin, in the opinion of Ian Chappell, is characterized by a degree of terror.

Ian Chappell, a former Australian cricketer, has commented on the play of current India cricketer Shreyas Iyer on Day 1 of the third Test in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Shreyas Iyer unable to express himself with the bat and was dismissed at number 5. Matthew Kuhnemann, an Australian spinner, bowled him for a duck with the second delivery he faced in his innings. In their first innings, India was dismissed for a meager 109 runs.

Ian Chappell was not satisfied with India’s batting on Day 1 of the match.

“Cheteshwar Pujara is really effervescent. I believe that during the entire series, he has been pretty jumpy. I keep hearing that Shreyas Iyer is a really good spin bowler, but I have yet to witness it for myself, so I’m not sure. In my opinion, he is a bit of a worrier “The 79-year-old stated in an interview with ESPNcricinfo.

The former top-order hitter was forthright in his criticism of Shreyas Iyer and his teammates. According to him, the Indian batting order appeared particularly fragile on the first day, allowing the Australian spinners to dominate with relative ease, aided by the changing surface in Indore. He likened India’s batting performance in both initial Tests to Australia’s poor batting performance.

He proceeded to comment absolutely on Shreyas Iyer.

Chappell added that he did not wish to accept the general belief that the 28-year-old was an exceptional spin player, something he had been hearing frequently. This is due to the fact that Iyer has yet to provide him with any substantial proof of it. On Day 1, he had a chance, but he failed badly to capitalize on it.

“There are a few guys on the Indian team who have not yet convinced me that they are strong spin bowlers. I believed that the Aussies initially frightened India. Many things occurred with the pitch. The Aussie spinners bowled with great precision. But what we witnessed from the Indians was Australian-style batting.”
