IPL 2025: In CSK vs. PBKS, Shreyas Iyer was hit with a penalty of INR 12 lakh for violating the Code of Conduct.

Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Punjab Kings, was fined for keeping up a sluggish over-rate against the Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League 2025 Match 49. This was the first time PBKS had been charged with keeping a slow over-rate throughout the current season when Shreyas Iyer was captain.

Despite the fact that his team won, the penalty would only make things worse for the PBKS management, since their captain was fined an incredible INR 12 lakh for violating Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

“Shreyas Iyer, Captain, Punjab Kings has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday,” according to a release from the league on Thursday.

“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Shreyas Iyer was fined INR 12 Lakh,” said the statement.

They are playing fantastic cricket, and I hope they keep up the good work,” Shreyas Iyer said.

After the decisive victory in Chepauk, the visiting team climbed up to second place in the points table and ultimately prevailed in the last-over drama versus CSK. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer and company have reaffirmed their goal of finishing in the top four this season in order to earn a spot in the playoffs. The Mumbai native’s outstanding performance earned him Player of the Match as well.

“I enjoy pursuing on any field, and I think I perform best when there is a significant total on the board and you have to lead the charge and create momentum for the hitters that follow. Try to trust my gut and follow my instincts. (On his away form) I’m trying to enjoy myself as much as I can, being in the moment, and simply responding to the ball.

I don’t want to curse it right now. I stick to the same strategy once I find out if there is a large sum, whether at home or away; occasionally it works, and other times it doesn’t. At the post-match presentation, the PBKS captain stated, “I know if I stay out there, I can chase down any target.”

“I know the ball will skid on and arrive at a great pace since I have been batting a lot in the nets lately and facing the quick bowlers with the new-ball. I feel so much more confident now. I have put a lot of effort into this section. Every time I step onto the pitch, I maintain a positive mindset. You can see the reflection on the pitch when I tick these four boxes’, he continued.

“[On the humidity] Fielding was more challenging than batting because I had to run from long-on to long-on. We also wanted to maintain the over-rate, so I had to make quick decisions. Additionally, there was definitely a lot more humidity than on any other pitch where I played. We were talking when Ricky entered and said, “We don’t have to wait until the very end; we need to step it up because they have some incredible death bowlers in Pathirana and Khaleel, and their team has a tonne of experience. The strategy is to take on the bowlers and essentially support ourselves,” he added.

I had to play a few balls when I got in to gauge the wicket’s performance. After ten balls, I concluded it was time to face the bowlers. The way that Prabh and Priyansh are starting off has been amazing, and they are not working that hard.
