The Mumbai team’s forthcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura will not feature star middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer. According to MCA authorities, he would not be going to Agartala for the match, which is set to start on November 26. Having having released a 16-man squad on Monday, the team has chosen not to identify a replacement.
Sources inside the BCCI have stated that Iyer has to take a minimum of one week off. In addition to Suryakumar Yadav, who has opted out for personal reasons, Iyer’s absence adds to the reigning champions’ mounting list of absences. In addition, Mumbai fired Prithvi Shaw because of his subpar play.
Iyer, who had hit a century against Maharashtra, had been open about the necessity of controlling his workload. He recently said, “I have to listen to my body because I know how much threshold I’ve carried over the last few years, and based on that I’ll be taking the right decision and I hope that my team will also back (me),” in response to his century against Maharashtra.
