Shreyas Iyer Should’ve Been Selected: Former Selector

Shreyas Iyer ought to have been included in India’s T20I squad for the forthcoming series against South Africa, according to former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth. Iyer last played for the Men in Blue in a Twenty20 International in December 2023.

Srikkanth thought Iyer earned a shot, especially after his performance in the Champions Trophy and the Indian Premier League earlier in the year, even though he appeared content with the 15-man team selected to play the Proteas.

“This team is outstanding. However, I continue to think that Shreyas Iyer need to be included in this entire system.

Remember that he performed admirably in both the Champions Trophy and the IPL. Therefore, Shreyas Iyer ought to be involved. In a video posted to his YouTube account, Srikkanth said, “You’ll have to give it to that boy with the scores he has put together in white-ball cricket.”

The 65-year-old concluded by saying that India’s bench strength in white-ball cricket made Iyer’s absence merely unfortunate.

Before the T20 World Cup, Shreyas Iyer ought to be given a chance to play. He can destroy attacks in the middle overs since he is a devastating batter. “I’m sorry for him, but the Indian team is too good,” he continued.

While making a catch during the ODI series against Australia Down Under, Iyer recently had a serious spleen damage. Following the same, he was sidelined, and he has recently been getting better. It will be intriguing to see if he makes a comeback for the January 2019 white-ball series against New Zealand.

To wrap up their all-format assignment, India will play the Proteas in a five-match series. On Tuesday, December 9, the 20-over leg is set to start. After losing 0–2 in the Tests, the hosts bounced back in the ODIs to win the three-match series 2-1.
