“Heartbroken, it’s still not quite sinking in and it won’t for a long.” – Shreyas Iyer shares an emotional message following the World Cup loss

With ten straight victories, India had a fantastic ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, making it all the way to the finals. But on Sunday, November 19, in front of a crammed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia trounced them by six wickets in the finals, and they were unable to cross the finish line. A standout player for the ‘Men in Blue’ in the ten-team competition was Shreyas Iyer. The Mumbai batsman congratulated Pat Cummins’ team on their record-breaking sixth ODI World Cup victory, using his official ‘X’ handle. In addition, he expressed his heartbreak along with all Indians and expressed gratitude to the BCCI, his teammates, the support staff, and the fans for their unwavering support.

It still hasn’t hit home for us and won’t for some time. We are devastated. I learned a lot from my first World Cup experience, and it has made me thankful for everything in my life. I want to express my gratitude to the @BCCI, team management, support personnel, my teammates, and all of the supporters who have stood by us from the start to the finish.

Additionally, Shreyas Iyer tweeted, “Congratulations on a fantastic campaign to the entire Australian team.”

We’re heartbroken, it still hasn’t sunk in and it won’t for a while. My first World Cup was an experience that has taught me so much and made me grateful for everything that’s come my way. Thank you to the @BCCI, team management, support staff, my teammates and you the fans for… pic.twitter.com/I6GG2VmT1b
