Shreyas Iyer Set to Sit Out 2nd India A Match

The first unofficial Test was played last week at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, with Shreyas Iyer leading India A. The Mumbai batter, however, is reportedly not going to play in the series’ second game, which starts at the same location on Tuesday, September 23.

When choosing India’s team for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the BCCI selectors came under heavy fire for failing to include Shreyas Iyer. Additionally, he was left out of India’s Asia Cup roster. The selectors did, however, give Shreyas Iyer good news when they named him captain of the India A squad for the two unofficial Test matches.

However, according to the Times of India (TOI), Shreyas Iyer will not play in the second India A vs. Australia A encounter.

Since Mohammed Siraj and KL Rahul have already joined the lineup for the second game, no replacement players will be added to the squad. The opening match did not include the seasoned pair.

In the next two-match Test series against the West Indies, which begins on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Shreyas Iyer is vying for a position in the middle order for India.

“Yes, Shreyas has returned to Mumbai and is enjoying a break. His inability to play in the second four-day encounter against Australia A has been communicated to the selectors. When the selectors convene to choose the team for the West Indies series, he is still in the running for a middle-order position, according to a source cited in the paper.

Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for just eight runs off of thirteen balls in the opening match between Australia A and India A. He lost to Corey Rocchiccioli LBW. India A declared their first innings at 531/7 after Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel hammered hundreds in the match. The first innings score for Australia A was 532/6. Before the game ended in a draw, the tourists finished at 56/0.
