Shreyas Iyer provides spine-chilling information of his rehabilitation prior to India's comeback for the 2023 Asia Cup.

After a protracted road of physical and psychological challenges following his operation earlier this year, Indian middle order batter Shreyas Iyer has finally made a comeback to cricket. Shreyas Iyer will make his eagerly anticipated comeback in the next Asia Cup, his first competitive game since being sidelined in March due to a spine-related ailment sustained during the Ahmedabad Test against Australia.

It is impossible to exaggerate Shreyas Iyer importance in India’s batting order. His comeback is a significant boost because of his potential to tackle the enduring problem of the number four position. Iyer’s record speaks for itself with an amazing average of 47.35 runs in 20 innings.

After being re-inducted into the Team India roster for the Asia Cup in 2023, Shreyas Iyer discussed his current strategy, the arduous rehabilitation process, as well as his emphasis on living in the present moment and rigorous preparation. In the same vein, he disclosed the negative aspect of his wound.

In a chat with BCCI,Shreyas Iyer stated, “See, for me, it is important to be in the present and do my routines correctly.”

“I don’t want to ponder about what has happened in the past or what will happen in the future. Being where I am makes me joyful. Every day, I check off more and more boxes. In terms of practice, I had two great days with the boys, and it was also competitive. I’m loving every minute I’m in right now and am so glad to be here,” he concluded.

Being a professional athlete, it is difficult when the discomfort does not go away: Shreyas Iyer

Also speaking candidly about his condition, Shreyas Iyer described the excruciating pain brought on by nerve compression brought on by a spinal slipped disc. In May, he had surgery in London, and the National Cricket Academy treated him after that. Iyer thanked his supports, which included friends, family, and the support personnel, while recalling the challenging recuperation time.

“When the pain doesn’t go away, it’s difficult being a professional athlete. Fortunately, I had a terrific group of friends, helpful staff, and my family by my side, he said.

So, in this circumstance, they were the ones who helped me to become calm. Although I was in a panic, the essential now more than ever is patience. I never expected that I would heal so quickly, so I’m very glad to be where I am right now,” he said.
