Due to a recurrence of a back injury, Shreyas Iyer is questionable for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against Australia starting on March 17. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, stated that Iyer “does not appear to be doing that well” in an initial evaluation of the situation.
At the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, the BCCI medical staff is currently evaluating Shreyas Iyer, who did not bat in the fourth and final Test against Australia. Iyer left Ahmedabad before the conclusion of the Test to obtain a prognosis of his illness.
According to ESPN cricinfo’s knowledge, Shreyas Iyer will miss at least the first ODI. After spending nearly two full days on the field, he complained of swelling in his lower back during the Ahmedabad Test.

Moreover, Iyer developed lower back edema for which he had an injection at the NCA. Iyer missed the home ODIs against New Zealand and the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Nagpur last month due to his rehabilitation taking longer than anticipated at the time.
The worsening of Iyer’s back health is also likely to cause anxiety for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL 2023 franchise he is expected to oversee. He was signed in the mega auction in February of the previous year after being released by Delhi Capitals, where he had lost his captaincy to Rishabh Pant after suffering a shoulder injury in March 2021 that prevented him from playing in the first portion of the IPL that season.
Shreyas Iyer withdrawal could make room for the uncapped Rajat Patidar of Madhya Pradesh in the ODI squad. Patidar has finished his physical fitness evaluation after two weeks of physical conditioning at the NCA.
