Shreyas Iyer may miss out on India ‘A’ squad for England series: Reports

According to preliminary sources, Shreyas Iyer is not guaranteed a spot in the “A” team.In the next days, the BCCI is anticipated to reveal the India “A” team for the unofficial Test series against the England Lions, which will take place prior to the start of the five-Test series.

Shreyas Iyer, 30, averages 90 runs in his last five first-class innings, although he is not guaranteed a spot in the squad for the three unofficial Test matches, according to Cricbuzz. Iyer’s last Test match was at home against England in 2024.

“Shreyas Iyer is not a guaranteed choice. At the moment, he is not part of the selection process for the India A or India teams. However, if Virat Kohli gives in and joins the team, there’s a potential that his preference or lack thereof would shift.

Shreyas Iyer has appeared in 14 Test matches, but it has been over 15 months since he last participated, according to the Cricbuzz report.

In 14 Test matches, Iyer averages 36.86, however in SENA countries, he only averages 15.00 over six innings. He has only played one Test match in England, in 2022, and while batting at No. 6, he scored 15 and 19.

Shreyas Iyer exclusion from the “A” squad could be a blatant sign that the selectors view him as a white-ball specialist. In addition, if he is selected, it will be a fantastic chance for him to make his case for rejoining the Test team. Both Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal had opportunities in the main series as a result of India rewarding batters who performed well during the shadow tour in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year.
