Shreyas Iyer Injured While Taking Stunning Catch

During the third ODI of the three-match series between Australia and India in Sydney on Saturday, October 25, Shreyas Iyer made a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey after sprinting back from backward point and timing his jump well. Shreyas Iyer landed awkwardly on the ground and was clearly uncomfortable as he and the team physio left the field.

Harshit Rana shattered the alliance between Carey and Matt Renshaw. The short-of-a-length ball was going to be slapped down by Carey. The left-handed batter, however, wound up slashing the ball far up in the air toward the area between third man and backward point. Shreyas Iyer kept his sights on the ball to hang on to it in the end as he ran back at full speed.

See below for the catch that hurt Shreyas Iyer.

Even after receiving some care from the physiotherapist and from his teammates, Shreyas Iyer appeared to be in excruciating pain and was holding on to his abdomen. He could not field at this point, so he hobbled off the SCG with the physio.

Whether Shreyas Iyer will continue to play when India bats during the run-chase process is still up in the air.

They called for drinks on the ground. In his first four overs, Harshit gave up 21 runs before taking his first wicket of the game. After a short while, the bowler took his second wicket. Rohit Sharma edged a hard length from Harshit at first slip. For Mitchell Owen, the new hitter, who had to leave for 1 off 4, the slop had just been introduced.

Speaking of the series, the hosts have already won it after winning the first two Twenty20 Internationals. In the first and second games, they prevailed by seven and two wickets, respectively. The start of the five-match T20I series is set for Wednesday, October 29.
