After suffering a severe injury, renowned batsman Shreyas Iyer has started training and recuperating, which has boosted the Indian cricket team. On October 25, during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, Shreyas Iyer landed awkwardly while making a catch, resulting in a spleen laceration.
After leaving the pitch right away, he was taken to the intensive care unit. Shreyas Iyer had a blunt-force abdomen injury that resulted in internal bleeding and a cut to his spleen, according to confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
After his situation stabilised, Shreyas Iyer was released from the hospital after undergoing a small operation to control the bleeding.
Following his November return to India from Australia, the right-handed batter has been regularly monitored by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. Shreyas Iyer posted an Instagram story on Tuesday, November 25, announcing that he has started training again, which was a good development for his recuperation.
He will not, however, play in the forthcoming ODI series against South Africa, which is scheduled to start in Ranchi on November 30. Since Shubman Gill, the designated ODI captain, is recuperating from a neck injury he got during the first Test match against the Proteas in Kolkata and is presently receiving medical evaluation in Mumbai, KL Rahul has been selected the Men in Blue’s stand-in captain.
After the Australia series concludes, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will also rejoin the team. After a stellar performance in the India A series against South Africa A, when he accumulated 210 runs at an average of 105 in three games, including a century and a half-century, Ruturaj Gaikwad returns.
The three-match ODI series between India and South Africa will start in Ranchi on November 30 and proceed to Raipur on December 3 and Vizag on December 6.
