Shreyas Iyer

During Match 33 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and Sri Lanka on Thursday, November 02 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, star Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer smashed the longest six of the competition. After Shubman Gill was out in the 30th over, the 28-year-old came in to bat at number one. Iyer didn’t spend any time getting settled in and attacked the bowlers straight away.

On the fourth ball of Kasun Rajitha’s 36th over, he even hit the longest six of the tournament thus far. On a wide delivery, the right-handed hitter stood tall and hammered the ball down the field, sending it soaring 106 meters. Glenn Maxwell of Australia, who had crushed a 104-meter six against New Zealand in Dharamsala, was the man he left off the list.

Notably, Shreyas Iyer had previously hit the longest six of the tournament, a 101-meter shot against Afghanistan in Delhi.

Due to his poor performance in the previous few games, the 28-year-old entered the batting under duress and went on to record his second half-century of the tournament off just 36 balls. With the assistance of three fours and six sixes during his innings, he played an outstanding knock of 82 (56).

India finished the first innings with 357/8.

India lost their skipper, Rohit Sharma, to Dilshan Madushanka on the second ball of the over earlier in the day despite being put in to bat first. After he was removed, a remarkable 189-run partnership between Shubman Gill (92 off 92) and Virat Kohli (88 off 94) steadied the batting.

Thanks to their efforts, India scored an incredible 357/8 in the 50 overs that were allocated to them. With a 5/80 score in ten overs, Dilshan Madushanka was his team’s best bowler.
