The former Australian cricket player further stated that PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, who batted lower in the order in the team’s most recent match against the Rajasthan Royals, will not be moving. They had to put Iyer down the line because of the circumstances, Haddin explained.
He praised Shreyas Iyer dedication and pointed out that even with a finger injury, he kept fielding on the boundary.
Before the Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, May 24, assistant coach Brad Haddin has commended the team’s batting performances during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
He also praised Azmatullah Omarzai and Shashank Singh for their outstanding league performances and praised them for stepping up when called upon.
“We have had excellent top orders. At number three, our skipper has performed admirably. We had seen Omar (Omarzai) and Shashank several times. They have stepped up and performed admirably when called upon. Omar has a few 50s, and Shashank has a few as well. We are pleased with where all of our batters are at this point in the competition,” Haddin stated.
“The other day’s conditions were the cause. Given the state of his finger, it was a courageous move to actually take the pitch. In the latter half of the game, he really ran around the boundary, so he still had a role. However, he will return to his typical ranking of number three. He has been exceptional throughout the entire competition, not just as a hitter but also as a leader,” he continued.
Owen will demonstrate his abilities: Haddin
Haddin said he had faith in Mitchell Owen and that he would undoubtedly show off his skills in the next games. He promised that the child has had a lot of coaching and will play the way the team wants him to.
“I believe that Mitch’s strength is his only contribution. He has now had more than a week to get used to what he will be receiving. He now comprehends the circumstances. Both the coaching staff and our Indian batsmen are listening to him a lot. Expect Mitch to play the way we want him to when he gets his second chance,” Haddin stated.
We know exactly where we want to end up: Haddin
The team’s goal is to finish strongly at the end of the league stage, Haddin emphasised. He emphasised the players’ desire to perform and said that the next two games will be very important.
“On the surface, it looks nice that we qualified, but we discussed with the group a while back the kind of game we want to play and our specific objectives for the end. And I believe that will increase over the course of the next two games,” Haddin said.
“I believe we currently have the luxury of choosing from a few different combinations. What I like best right now is that every player is eager to play. They can’t wait to play on the pitch. “You want your group to be at this stage because training is very competitive,” he continued.
