Although Shreyas Iyer has made progress, he is still not entirely fit: BCCI

After a protracted injury break, Shreyas Iyer eagerly awaited comeback to cricket hasn’t exactly gone as planned. The gifted Indian batsman just made a comeback during the Asia Cup, but because of his condition, fans and cricket commentators are wondering if he will be ready for the forthcoming ODI World Cup.

Just before India’s Super Four match against Pakistan, Shreyas Iyer return to the pitch was hampered.

A back spasm prompted him to observe from the sidelines just as he was about to take the pitch. KL Rahul, who took over as his replacement, took advantage of the situation and played an electrifying innings, reaching an astounding hundred that made headlines.

Shreyas Iyer was once again left off the starting lineup for the subsequent Super Four game against Sri Lanka, which worried both fans and commentators. Shreyas Iyer fitness is still very much in doubt with the ODI World Cup in 2023 just around the corner.

Shreyas Iyer return to the Asia Cup was eagerly anticipated after being sidelined since March because of a back issue that necessitated surgery. Iyer shown no obvious signs of discomfort while facing fast-bowling throwdowns and net bowlers in his most recent practise sessions, suggesting that he was on the road to recovery.

But the BCCI has made it plain that he is not yet fully healthy, which is what caused his absence from the starting XI against Bangladesh in the final Super Four game. He also doesn’t look likely to participate in the September 17 Asia Cup championship match versus Sri Lanka.

The clock is ticking quickly for the explosive batter with only three One Day Internationals against Australia and two practise matches remaining. If he isn’t totally fit, Rahul will take over as his partner in the batting order, and Ishan Kishan will also have an opportunity to play frequently.

Iyer’s readiness for the ODI World Cup 2023 will likely depend on whether or not India plays three ODIs against Australia following the conclusion of the Asia Cup.
