The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) recently stepped forward to declare India’s roster for the major tournament, the Asia Cup 2023. In addition to returning players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, the player pool includes players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Rahul and Iyer’s comeback will also solve India’s middle-order problems. One key talking point, though, would be the fact that neither batter has had much match preparation. Although both players took part in a practice match at the NCA (National Cricket Academy), it did nothing to replicate the circumstances of an ODI game in which they faced talented opponents.
Kapil Dev, a former captain of India, recently voiced a similar viewpoint. In his analysis of Team India’s lineup for the Asia Cup, Kapil Dev said that it is preferable to test out the players now, before the ODI World Cup, rather than risking an injury at the World Cup.
Every player should ideally be evaluated. You still haven’t given the players a chance despite the fact that the World Cup is so close? What happens if they travel to the World Cup and get hurt there? The team as a whole will be hurt. At least here, they would have a chance to bowl or bat briefly and establish some rhythm, according to Kapil Dev on ABP News.

Furthermore, Kapil Dev discussed the worst-case scenario of injuries occurring to players while they are competing in the World Cup. He claimed that the players who don’t make the squad for the eagerly anticipated competition may find it to be unjust.
“In the worst case scenario, it will be unjust to the players who will miss out on being a part of the group if the guys get hurt again during the World Cup. It is important to give the injured athletes a chance. The World Cup is open to them if they are healthy. There is no scarcity of talent, but if they are not healthy, India will have the opportunity to immediately make changes to the World Cup roster. Dev Kapil
