Shreyas Iyer, the cornerstone batsman for Mumbai, has stated that he is available for the red-ball Duleep Trophy event, which starts on Thursday, August 28. Shreyas Iyer will represent the West Zone in the zonal version of the Duleep Trophy, which is different from previous year’s model.
Since February 2024, when he was included in the starting lineup for the five-match Test series against England at home, Shreyas Iyer has not been a member of India’s red-ball lineup.
Shreyas Iyer has since made a comeback to domestic cricket, scoring some important runs for Mumbai.
Shivam Dube, Tushar Deshpande, Sarfaraz Khan, and Iyer have all confirmed their availability for the competition, according to sources from The Indian Express. Sarfaraz hopes to return to the Indian team following a successful Duleep Trophy competition.
“Shreyas Iyer has let us know that he is able to participate in the Duleep Trophy. According to an MCA source who spoke to The Indian Express, other players including Sarfaraz, Shivam Dubey, and Tushar Deshpande have confirmed their availability.
Additionally, the outlet verified that Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja will not be included in West Zone’s tournament setup. Since none of the Indian regulars, KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar, are included in the roster, South Zone also practices similarly.
