The Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) produced one of the most gifted young cricket players, Shreyanka Patil. But for the third season of the competition, the bowling all-rounder is virtually guaranteed to miss out.
Patil’s decision to miss the entire 2025 WPL season is a major setback for the reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This happens as a result of the child’s recent injury.
Reports that Sneh Rana, an unsold all-rounder, is the front-runner to take Shreyanka’s place in the RCB team. After being released by the Gujarat Giants (GG), Rana had previously gone unsold in the WPL auction the previous year. He has since been observed with the RCB team ahead of their season-opening game on Friday, February 14. Notably, before the event, RCB featured Shreyanka Patil in a number of their social media posts. However, the off-spinner recently posted on social media, implying that she might not be sure if she will be competing in the competition.

Due to injury issues, RCB will miss several of its best players in the 2025 WPL.
For those who are unaware, Shreyanka won the Purple Cap for RCB in the previous tournament and played a crucial role. In the final match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, she also claimed four wickets. Prior to the WPL season, Patil was also battling a similar injury. It’s yet another serious issue that can make RCB’s title defence more difficult.
Asha Sobhana’s knee injury, Sophie Devine’s break, left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux’s injury, and medium-fast bowler Kate Cross’s withdrawal to focus on her injury rehabilitation are just a few of the absences they are already facing.
Even though they were without some key players, RCB made a spectacular start to their campaign by easily chasing down a 202-run target against Gujarat Giants in the first game. With six wickets remaining, RCB completed the goal in 18.3 overs thanks to spectacular half-centuries from Richa Ghosh and Ellyse Perry.
