When Rohit came out to bat, he attacked the bowlers for Afghanistan with all of his might. The opening batsman went on to smash the record with a century as he led India to a commanding eight-wicket victory.
Rohit Sharma scored 131 runs in just 84 balls, smashing 16 fours and five sixes during his innings. The spectators gasped in delight for one of the Indian captain’s many lavish strokes against Azmatullah Omarzai in the ninth over.
With his signature pull, Rohit Sharma managed to get a short delivery far back into the deep mid-wicket on the third ball of the over. Everyone was enthralled when the Indian opener sent the ball soaring into the night sky. Rohit’s shot also astounded KL Rahul, who was seen mouthing “Oh Wow” in the dressing room.

With his brilliant innings and diverse strokeplay throughout his innings, Rohit broke records for a toss. By dancing down the track and smoking Fazalhaq Farooqui for a maximum over deep extra cover, he became the first player in ODI World Cup history to reach 1000 runs. The 36-year-old, like David Warner, became the tournament’s joint-fastest batsman to amass 1000 runs by hitting the milestone in 19 innings.

In the ODI World Cup, he also scored the fastest hundred by an Indian batsman, completing the milestone in just 63 balls. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who accomplished the feat against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup in 81 balls, was left behind by Rohit.
The Nagpur-born player overtook Chris Gayle’s 553 career maximums to take the top spot on the list of most sixes in international cricket. In 473 innings of international cricket, Rohit has now smashed 556 sixes.
India beat the opposition by eight wickets by chasing down the score of 273 in 35 overs thanks to his performance. For his record-breaking innings, the Indian captain was rightfully named Player of the Match.
