Officials from the Dhaka Capitals announced on Thursday that Shoaib Akhtar, a former bowler from Pakistan, will serve as their mentor for the forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League.
The quickest delivery in international cricket is held by Shoaib Akhtar, who is referred to as the “Rawalpindi Express” due to his incredible pace.
In the past, he had advisory positions in various T20 leagues. “We are considering him as a mentor for Dhaka Capitals for the next BPL season,” Dhaka Capitals CEO Atik Fahad told Cricbuzz on Thursday.
“We have chosen him firstly because of his brand value and second to motivate the players,” he stated.
“Before the season starts he will come for a couple of days as we have some endorsements with him and he will leave after finishing those endorsements,” he explained.
“Later during the season he will watch some games and give some guidance to the players like the way we brought Saeed Ajmal last year and his role is quite similar to that,” he explained.
Having taken 444 international wickets in all forms, the 50-year-old former fast bowler represented Pakistan in 46 Test matches, 163 Odis, and 15 T20Is. It is anticipated that his presence in the squad setup will motivate the upcoming generation of quick bowlers.
BPL Auction Date Modified
Although Shoaib Akhtar was signed by the Dhaka Capitals, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) BPL Governing Council had previously declared that the BPL Players’ Auction 2026 would henceforth be held at the Grand Ballroom, Radisson Blu Dhaka, on Sunday, November 30, 2025, starting at 3 p.m.
It had previously been set for November 23.
In order to guarantee seamless coordination between all parties involved and to produce a well-planned auction event, the new date has been selected. As teams get ready to assemble their rosters for the forthcoming season, the Players’ Auction is a significant turning point in the run-up to the 12th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20, according to a statement released by the BPL Governing Council on November 19.
