Shivam Dube attributes his comeback to MS Dhoni

Particularly in the Indian Premier League, Shivam Dube had a miserable career in professional cricket. He did not have a performance at the auctions that would have supported him while he was at Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Surprisingly, the Chennai Super Kings signed him after he was released from RCB. After his achievements with CSK, pundits referred to Dube as an evolved cricket player.

He eventually made it to the national team and was selected for the Indian side for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The southpaw gives credit to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of CSK, for his comeback. Throughout his time at CSK, he disclosed that the legendary Indian cricket player has supported him and given him insightful counsel.

“A renowned player like Mahi Bhai judges and advises you, and that means a lot to any player, which is why his involvement was vital (in my comeback). Your confidence takes off the moment he tells you something positive. Speaking to Star Sports, Dube stated, “His little pieces of advice have improved my cricket greatly.”

I may need to bowl 2-3, according to what I’ve been advised. Shivam Dube

One striking thing about Dube’s time at CSK was that, despite being an all-round player, the team did not use him as a bowler. He took one wicket in the IPL in 2024. Previously, he bowled in just one game and took three wickets while playing for the Indian squad in the T20I series against Australia. In reference to the same, he disclosed that he has been called up ahead of time to prepare for periods of a few overs due to the approaching T20 World Cup 2024.

“I only bowled one over in the IPL, but I was able to take a wicket, which is a huge plus and was crucial (for confidence).” Still, I had been working in the nets because I knew I needed to hone my abilities so I could be ready for the inevitable. I can express myself as an all-rounder, and I’ve been told that I might be required to bowl two or three overs at any one moment, as Rohit and Rahul Bhai had instructed me,” he continued.
