Shimron Hetmyer, a left-handed batter who is presently playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, is a noteworthy absence from the team, though. For the forthcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against England and Ireland, the West Indies, captained by Shai Hope, have revealed their roster.
In just 11 innings, Shimron Hetmyer has amassed 216 runs at a strike rate of almost 147, including one fifty.
With six points from 12 games, RR is now ranked ninth in the standings and is out of the running for a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs.
Shimron Hetmyer may still be selected for either series if he or the West Indies so choose at any point, as RR’s final game of the competition is on May 16.
Jewel Andrew rejoins the team after playing his lone ODI match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in October of last year. Amir Jangoo, who made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in December 2024 and produced a 79-ball century, would also like to have a lengthy career.
West Indies, who are currently ranked tenth in the ICC ODI rankings, need to win the games against England and Ireland in order to push for automatic qualifying to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
“These matches form a critical component towards the 2027 World Cup and there are signs of the team building consistency following the series sweep against Bangladesh and the win over England late last year,” Daren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies, said
“We expect the conditions to be challenging but we are creating a culture and mindset which emphasise playing the brand of cricket that is taking us closer to some of our overall objectives.”
Former all-rounder Kevin O’Brien will lead the team for the tour’s Ireland leg, and former pacer Ravi Rampaul will take James Franklin’s place as bowling coach for the West Indies. The England ODs will start on May 29 and be followed by three Twenty20 Internationals. The three-match ODI rivalry versus Ireland will start on May 21. The West Indies team for the Twenty20 International series has not yet been revealed.
Jewel Andrew, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, and Shai Hope (captain) make up the West Indies ODI team.
