"Shiki Boy, happy retirement!" - After Shikhar Dhawan's retirement, Ravi Shastri shares an emotional message

Recently, 38-year-old Shikhar Dhawan declared his retirement from all cricket-related activities. Dhawan revealed a one-and-a-half-minute video on social media to mark the announcement of his retirement. With 10,867 runs in his career, the former hitter participated in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is before retiring.

Following the news, Ravi Shastri, the former head coach and cricket player for India, congratulated Shikhar Dhawan on his retirement and wrote a poignant message in memory of his career.

Notably, Dhawan was coached by Shastri for seven years; the two have enjoyed great success together throughout their time together. Dhawan was a member of the Test team until 2018.

“Shiki Boy, happy retirement! Throughout my seven years as coach and director, you provided me with endless delight and amusement. We will never forget your memorable knock in Galle, your innings that won matches in ICC competitions, and the Asia Cups. You still have a lot of time to make a positive impact on the sport. May God bless you. Tweeted Shastri, “@SDhawan25.”

It’s interesting to note that Shastri coached the Indian team up to 2021, with his final assignment being the T20 World Cup 2021. Rahul Dravid, Shastri’s replacement, guided the team to victory at the T20 World Cup in 2024. Shastri has since returned to the commentary booth.

In order to move on in life, it’s critical to flip the page: Shikhar Dhawan

To officially announce his retirement, Dhawan used social media. The 38-year-old made the decision to retire because he believed that it was imperative to move on with his life. “I’m proud to announce my retirement from both domestic and international cricket. It’s time to turn the page and move on in life. Having played for India for so long, I am departing with a peaceful heart.

I’ve persuaded myself to be happy that I represented India in the game rather than be unhappy that I won’t be playing for them again.” Dhawan made a post.
