Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine provide insight into Australia's passion for sledging
Former Australian players Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine revealed information about Australian cricket to ahead of the upcoming leg of the competition

Australia’s previous cricket players are competing in the World Championship of Legends right now. Pakistan and Australia are the other teams who have advanced to the playoffs, with India and the West Indies making it at the ideal time.

Australia is renowned for its aggressive tactics and fierce competition in the industry. The most recent ICC trophy the side has won is the World Cup 2023 in India. Paine acknowledged that there won’t be anything like in the WCL and claimed that the sledging aspect occurs when he becomes bored in the field. However, Marsh believed that when teams like Australia and India compete, things get out of hand and that the only thing that can calm down is sledging.

“This tournament is not for sledging. It is really pleasant. For myself, I basically talk a lot and get bored easily. It is organic. On and off the pitch, I’m the same person. Therefore, I’m not usually sledging or being overly harsh. To be honest, I just like to talk, attempt to engage with the batter, and maybe try to divert their attention by, well, talking a little bit of nonsense. Thus, it is rarely extremely harsh or abrasive. All I want to do is attempt to enjoy myself a little. As I mentioned, I get bored. Shaun will probably tell you that, whether I’m in the team room or on the bus, I usually chat, and that doesn’t alter while I’m playing,” Paine remarked.

To be honest, I don’t believe there is a lot of it. You know, the game no longer has as much sledging in it. Perhaps during the major competitions in Australia and India, tensions could rise in the midst of… Sledging will still occasionally be heard, but not as frequently as it formerly did, Marsh continued.
