Regarding India’s roster for the Test series against England, Shashi Tharoor expressed his opinion that it is challenging for a selector to choose the best team. According to the Indian Member of Parliament, Sarfaraz Khan’s run totals in domestic cricket and the India A series against the England Lions made him deserving of a spot in the Indian team.
According to Tharoor, it was illogical to exclude a player of Khan’s calibre from the team. In the absence of seasonal stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the political leader felt compelled to give newcomers an opportunity. Sarfaraz was left out of the squad against England because, according to Tharoor, he did not have any opportunities during the series against Australia.
“Any selection has to make a difficult decision, but I have to admit that everyone has their favourites who should be included. Young Sarfaraz has performed far too well in the home circuit, in my opinion, to be excluded. He was granted one innings here, scored a significant amount of runs in the nineties, and was never played again after being denied a chance in Australia. In an interview with Revsportz, Tharoor stated, “There are rumours that he performed admirably in the warm-up match against the regular Indian side.”
“Why do they not include a player with this calibre? It’s illogical. We need to have new young players for the next two years who have performed well and shown themselves time and time again, like Sarfaraz,” Tharoor continued. “I think we should now give others an opportunity. We’ve lost the greats like Virat and Rohit one after the other.”
Shashi Tharoor said of Gautam Gambhir, “He does not show his aggressive side in the parliament.”
According to Shashi Tharoor, who has known Gautam Gambhir since his time as an MP, he has never seen the aggressive side of the Indian coach that is evident on the cricket pitch. Finally, he wished Gambhir luck in achieving success.
“Gauti and I were in the parliament together, so I do know him pretty well. In the legislature, he doesn’t display that side. Let’s watch what happens, wait for the results, and then make a judgement because in this sport, results are all that matter,” Shashi Tharoor continued.
