After ranking ninth on Google’s list of the world’s most searched sportsmen in 2024, Punjab Kings star batsman Shashank Singh recently thanked the team. The batter, who had an incredible Indian Premier League (IPL) season the previous year, talked about how important Punjab Kings were to his success.
Because of his performances, the team decided to pay INR 5.5 crore to keep him for the 2025 IPL. Shashank Singh became well-known both on and off the pitch as a result of his outstanding performances. He attributed his rising fame to the Punjab-based team after his name appeared on Google’s list of the most searched athletes globally in 2024.
“I was unaware that Google publishes a list of individuals who have been searched for worldwide. To be honest, it’s a huge thing. I like to celebrate in comfort. However, I secretly feel pleased that people are looking up my name and understanding what I do in India and throughout the world. The Punjab Kings have made this possible. Despite the abundance of brilliant and elite cricket players, Punjab Kings has consistently supported and believed in me. In fact, I put in a lot of work too,” he stated in a news statement.
I’ve played cricket with Shreyas, so I’m excited to meet him: Shashank Singh
Shashank Singh is excited to get back again with his Kings teammates, especially rising talent Suryansh Shedge and recently selected captain Shreyas Iyer, as the new season approaches. Singh talked about playing with both players again after they shared a dressing room during the DY Patil T20 Cup.
I have played cricket with Shreyas at the younger level, so I am looking forward to meeting him. We have a strong relationship and played together in the DY Patil T20 Cup. I can’t wait to play this season under his leadership. Reuniting with Suryansh, who is also a member of the same DY Patil team, excites me. He is a very promising future for the nation and the Punjab Kings,” Shashank continued.
With two half-centuries and 354 runs from 14 games at an average of 44.25, the right-hander had a fantastic 2024 season. When he crushed an undefeated match-winning innings of 61* off 29 deliveries against the Gujarat Titans, it was his breakthrough moment. He thought back on his innings against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have been a member of this franchise last year and to have been kept on board. In my opinion, the innings against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, respectively, were excellent. As the person standing there, I experienced a unique sense of satisfaction as the team won. I hold a special place in my heart for the help that the management provided me with last year. I suppose I could say that I have a strong emotional bond with the franchise. The 33-year-old continued, “I’ll make sure that I do all the right things that I did last year to retain this trust.”
