When Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir played in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Elite Group A last month, Shardul Thakur disclosed that he spoke with Rohit Sharma about the latter’s recent batting slump.
In last week’s second ODI in Cuttack, Rohit reversed his slump with an incredible century against England. To assist the Men in Blue easily chase down a 305-run mark, the skipper of India scored 119 off just 90 balls.
The renowned cricketer, who is also his long-time friend, gave Shardul a lot of credit for the knock. The all-rounder for Mumbai hailed Rohit’s smooth sixes and blamed some of his recent dismissals on bad luck.
In the Cuttack ODI match against England, his batting style did not appear to be out of form at all. Everyone in the nets has the chance of getting out in some balls. Other than that, he appeared to be quite at ease outside. There is nothing you can do but blame luck. In every situation, he is a dangerous batter because of the way he hits those sixes. In an interview, Shardul told RevSportz, “His class is different from all the others.”
Rohit struggled with the bat against Australia and New Zealand, but Shardul Thakur claimed he was still confident.
The former recalled that Rohit had informed him that all it took was one excellent knock to make things better during the Mumbai vs. Jammu and Kashmir match.
“He hadn’t scored in Australia either, so we talked when he played that Ranji game for us and didn’t score any runs. “I know the runs are not coming now, but all I need is just one innings,” he informed me, demonstrating his confidence. After that, runs will resume on their own,” he continued.
Rohit did not score any runs in the Ranji Trophy match. Shardul did comment on the 37-year-old’s apparent confidence in the nets, though. In addition, Shardul discussed the challenges of being an opener and asked fans to refrain from passing judgement on the stalwart.
It’s always difficult when they have to deal with the new ball since he is an opener. Since he has won so many games for India in various formats throughout the years, we shouldn’t pass judgement on him at any point,” Thakur stated.
