According to recent reports, Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who is now playing for Mumbai in their Irani Cup 2024 match against the Rest of India, was hospitalised to Medanta Hospital on Day 2 of play owing to a viral infection. He was released from the hospital today.
The most recent medical reports state that all serious illnesses have been ruled out. Thakur is still unlikely to play in the first innings of the Rest of India match, though. If his recovery proceeds as planned, Thakur may be able to join the team in the locker room.
The primary rationale behind Thakur’s decision to bat at position nine, as well as the fact that the team management is awaiting test results for a few illnesses, were disclosed by a source yesterday.
“He came out to bat late primarily because he had a high fever and had not felt well during the day. After taking his medication, he fell asleep in the changing room because he was feeling weak. He felt low, but he wanted to bat. His blood has been tested for dengue and malaria. We’re awaiting the outcome. He would stay the night in the hospital until then,” a source was cited as saying in an article published by The Indian Express.
Day 3 saw RoI battle back through a grittier tonne by Abhimanyu Easwaran.
It was always going to be difficult for the Indian batting team to catch up to, let alone overcome, the early all-out on the third day of the match at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, even though Thakur did not take the pitch.

But Abhimanyu Easwaran has led the struggle against Mumbai with a fighting tonne. Ishan Kishan and Easwaran are sharing company in the middle of the 50-over match as of writing, with the rest of India at 197/3.
