Mumbai, the reigning champions, will be led by Shardul Thakur in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. With veterans like Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ajinkya Rahane in the lineup, the seasoned all-rounder will have a formidable squad at his disposal.
Under Shreyas Iyer’s direction, Mumbai won the T20 tournament last year. But after suffering a burst spleen during the October ODI series against Australia, the right-handed hitter will not be able to play for the remainder of the year.
Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign this year has been led by Shardul.
Earlier this year, Mumbai crushed Puducherry under his guidance, winning by an innings and 22 runs. In the nation’s elite domestic red-ball competition, Mumbai is ranked first in Elite Group D.
Returning to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Mumbai’s team consists of spin-bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian, India fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, and wicketkeepers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Hardik Tamore. As a speciality batter for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Raghuvanshi has been winning over supporters with his ability to keep wicket.
In the IPL, Tushar Deshpande has already played for clubs like the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, Tanush Kotian participated in the most recent unofficial Test matches between South Africa A and India A.
The team also includes Siddhesh Lad, who has amassed 530 runs in five games this season, including three hundreds and a fifty in the Ranji Trophy’s first leg.
Two-time winners Mumbai’s campaign kicks off on Wednesday, November 26, when they take on Railways. Together with Odisha, Vidarbha, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, these two teams are ranked in Elite Group A.
