Shane Watson talks about the format change, the number of times he bats, and the move from Kookaburra to Dukes.

Australia is getting ready to play India in the final of the World Test Championship in 2023. After that, they will play England in the Ashes. The Pat Cummins-led team will be on this tour for about two months, during which time they could play as many as six tests. So, in order to get ready for the very important trip, a lot of the team’s players decided to skip the Indian Premier League 2023. But players like Cameron Green, David Warner, and Josh Hazlewood played for their own teams in the league that made a lot of money.

Green played for the Mumbai Indians and was an important part of the Rohit Sharma-led team. He took six wickets and scored 452 runs at a strike rate of more than 160. Now, the 24-year-old will have to switch formats and conditions while playing for the Aussies in the biggest version of the game. In the same way, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has said that Green and Warner are going through an “extreme” change period before their tour of England.

“There’s no question that the guys will have to go through a rough time during this transition. Watson told ESPNCricinfo, “They need to face as many new balls as they can and bat as much as they can to get the nets as lively as possible.”

Watson, who had to switch formats and prepare for the Ashes after the 2013 and 2015 IPL seasons ended, told the young Australian all-rounder to face as many balls as possible and try to get into a rhythm before his first red-ball assignment in English conditions. The 41-year-old also told Green that if he wanted to take more risks while wearing the baggy green, he should have a good attitude and a strong will.

“That’s the only way to get back into hitting the ball with your eyes closed. Yes, you need to be positive and aggressive, but you also need to know which shots you can score on and which ones are more dangerous,” Shane Watson said.
The Queensland-born player was also interested in the task of facing the Dukes ball. He said that it will be hard to handle because it swings all the time. He also talked about how important tour matches can be for getting a player ready for a big match.
