Shane Watson backs Shubman Gill to excel across formats

Shane Watson, a former cricket player from Australia, has praised Shubman Gill’s technique and believes that he will quickly become accustomed to all three formats. The most recent addition to the Indian team’s Test and ODI captaincy is Gill, who also serves as the team’s vice-captain in the Twenty20 Internationals, where Suryakumar Yadav is the permanent captain.

“Every player takes some time to adjust to different scenarios and conditions,” Shane Watson said.

He described Gill as a “ridiculously talented batter” and said that Gill will soon be regarded as a batter who is completely proficient in all formats.

“It does take time to adjust, and you come to understand exactly what you need to do to do so by playing in various settings and learning via trial and error. Shubman is an absurdly gifted batter. His technique is incredible. “When someone is as skilled as he is, it won’t take him long at all to be able to really navigate his way through the various formats,” Shane Watson said, as reported by India Today.

Additionally, Shane Watson acknowledged that it is difficult to swap formats, as Gill has been doing. He did point out, though, that Gill will become much more at ease in the future with more game time under his belt.

“It definitely is a challenge, and the more you do it, the better you get at really understanding the little adjustments that you have to make to your technique, to your game plan, your mindset around each format to be able to then get into the best version of you every time you have to make that adjustment,” he stated.

It hasn’t been the easiest journey for Gill, who had a fantastic five-match tour of England in which he scored 754 runs in 10 innings. During India’s successful Asia Cup run in the United Arab Emirates, Gill amassed just 127 runs in seven games.

His scores before the ODI series against the Australians were 10, 9, and 24. Gill has struggled to make the most of his starts, scoring just 5 and 15 in the second and third Twenty20 Internationals, with the exception of the first, when he stayed undefeated at 37 off 20. The fourth and fifth Twenty20 Internationals for the Men in Blue are set for November 6 and November 8, respectively.
