'We'll see that again in the Champions Trophy'- Shane Watson backs Rohit Sharma to regain form

After an eight-year break, the Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played. With the 2025 competition quickly approaching, it is expected that a number of players will perform well in the main event. Rohit Sharma is one of them. The seasoned Indian veteran, who has recently suffered a severe decline in his batting form, is expected to draw a lot of attention.

In the upcoming ICC event, Rohit was expected to unleash his 2023 World Cup persona, according to former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson. He also discussed how easily he has adjusted to playing ODI cricket.

“That will recur in the Champions Trophy. At his peak, Rohit was dominating the game, as demonstrated at the 2023 one-day World Cup. In Test cricket, it’s more challenging to accomplish that. In Australia, he hasn’t been able to strike that balance. In contrast, he lets loose when he bats in one-days. We saw Rohit Sharma at his peak at that point,” Watson told Star Sports.

He will undoubtedly release the handbrake: Shane Watson

The former cricket player who is now a broadcaster said he would be “very surprised” if Rohit didn’t improve during the Champions Trophy.

Given that he likely doesn’t have much time left, whatever that may be, but a lot of time left in international cricket, I would be shocked if he didn’t play exceptionally well in the Champions Trophy. Thus, I’m confident he’ll release the handbrake,” Watson continued.

Notably, Rohit participated in the event in 2013 and 2017 and scored 491 runs in 10 innings. Rohit may find that the white-ball event is just what he needs to regain his confidence and batting spirit. After winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, India would like to perform well as a team and win another ICC championship in less than a year.
