”No matter what the pitch is like, we must find a way out’- Pakistan captain Shan Masood after humble loss to England in Multan

''No matter what the pitch is like, we must find a way out'- Pakistan captain Shan Masood after humble loss to England in Multan

The Pakistani team has begun reflecting on the heartbreaking defeat, with captain Shan Masood spearheading the process. Masood discussed the team’s inability to build on their impressive batting display in the post-match interview, blaming their loss on their inability to take 20 wickets.

At Multan Cricket Stadium, Pakistan’s maiden Test match against England ended in a humiliating defeat. The hosts became the first team in Test history to lose by an innings after scoring more than 500 runs in their opening innings when they lost by an innings and 47 runs, despite amassing a dominant first-innings score of 556.

When you score 556, it’s critical to support that total with 10 wickets and maintain a competitive game. That is not what we accomplished. England will find it difficult to match our 220 runs on the fifth day if we were to take those 10 wickets and reach our target. That’s the essential element. Masood stated in the press conference following the game, “We have to figure out as a team how the batting and bowling in the first innings contribute to a lead and hopefully set the match up,” as reported by The Times of India.

There has to be a way out: Shan Masood

They declared their first-inning score at 823/7, but they were unable to stop England after their outstanding first-inning total. With only a 109-run partnership between Salman Ali Agha (63) and Aamer Jamal (55 not out) offering some hope on the last day, the hosts collapsed under pressure in the second innings.

“We need to find a way out of the pitch, no matter how bad it is,” is where I want the team to get better. In this Test, England led the way; they deserve a great deal of praise. The beauty of the game is that you’re always given another chance, even when the outcome hurts us as a country,” he continued.

I never attempt to avoid taking on responsibilities: Shan Masood

Masood remains confident in the team’s capacity to recover despite the setback. The captain sees a chance to salvage the three-match series with just four days to go before the second Test.

We’re anticipating the fast turnaround (for the second Test), which could be advantageous to us. I never attempt to avoid taking on responsibility.

The fact that Pakistani cricket isn’t receiving the outcomes it deserves hurts. He said, “We’re going to try our hardest to turn this around, and we’re all trying very hard.”
