Reports: Mohammed Shami doubtful for BGT 2024-25 due to knee injury

Great Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has reportedly encountered another setback in his recuperation process, as he had swelling in his knees during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). It is possible that the 34-year-old may miss another six to eight weeks of action.

India’s preparations for the Border Gavaskar series in Australia from 2024 to 2025 may be hampered by Shami’s recent setback. The highly anticipated series is scheduled to begin in Perth on November 22. It is important to note that Shami has been preparing to return to full health since February 2024.

After representing India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, he had surgery in February to repair his Achilles tendon. Shami was also anticipated to play for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, which gets underway on October 11.

“Mohammed Shami had started bowling again, and it appeared that he would soon return to playing competitive cricket.

However, this knee issue has suddenly become worse. The Times of India cited an informed source close to the BCCI as stating, “The medical team of the BCCI is evaluating the injury, but it might take some time.”

“The medical staff at NCA is taken aback. He has been in their care for more than a year. They operate one of the top task management programs. The insider stated, “The medical staff is working hard to get him back in the park as quickly as possible.

It is noteworthy that the BCCI has exercised extreme caution in allocating their pacers’ workloads. Periodic pauses have been provided for Bumrah and Shami to prevent injury.

Jasprit Bumrah recently participated in a two-game Test series against Bangladesh; however, it is unclear if Bumrah would be included in the Indian side as they prepare for the Tests against New Zealand.
