Mohammed Shami advises Siraj to 'focus on basics' to find success amid poor form

In the past three Test matches—two against New Zealand and four against Bangladesh in Bengaluru—ace bowler Mohammed Siraj has only claimed six wickets. Due to Akash Deep, who has been playing exceptionally well lately, being in the wings, there are questions regarding his position in the starting lineup. The 30-year-old Siraj will soon find his game, though, according to standout pacer Mohammed Shami, who said there is no need to be concerned about his form.

Additionally, Shami suggested that Siraj focus on the fundamentals and bowl on a same place frequently.

He is also aware that the cricket player, who was born in Hyderabad, is going through a difficult time since catches are being missed or batters are not making excellent deliveries.

“Siraj is not new; in fact, he has a lot of experience. Sometimes the things we are concentrating on don’t happen. He’s going through a phase, in my opinion, when he wants to do something but it’s not occurring. Shami stated in an interview with SportsTak, “He wants to take wickets, but people are not getting out, or if he is getting the edge, catches are not being taken.”

That stage occasionally occurs. I believe that frustration is unnecessary. Once you start to succeed, nobody will be able to stop you, so focus on the fundamentals, choose a location, and keep bowling there,” he continued.

Shami, who had the highest number of wickets at the 2023 ODI World Cup, has not yet made a comeback to the pitch. After undergoing surgery for an ankle injury sustained during the tournament, he has not yet fully recovered. Currently training at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA), the pacer hopes to return for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Shami stated that he would like to play a few Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal in order to demonstrate his fitness before then.

However, Shami’s progress is being closely monitored by the physicians and physiotherapists at NCA, who are not in a hurry to get him moving.
