Mohammed Shami, who is currently unpopular with the Indian national men’s cricket team, said he regrets a personal choice he made in 2014, when his cricket career was just beginning to take off.
Shami claimed that his marriage to his now-divorced wife Hasin Jahan was his worst mistake ever while appearing on the television program Aap Ki Adalat.
“You learn a lot from life. I acknowledge that it was the most significant error of my life. Shami was cited by The Times of India as saying, “I don’t blame anybody, it was my fate.”
“It pinches you; it was really hard. You have to split your attention while you’re performing at your best. One side of you is keeping an eye on domestic affairs, and the other is performing for the nation. It puts you under a lot of strain,” the bowler, who took the most wickets in the 2023 World Cup, continued.
Shami bemoaned, “Nobody wants fights at home, especially when you are serving your country,” claiming that domestic altercations were not a part of his upbringing. I made an effort, but it also depends on the other side. The only solution is patience if they choose not to.
The pacer, who has taken 462 wickets in 64 Test matches, 108 ODIs, and 27 T20Is for India, added that he had to exercise patience because he had no control over the circumstances.
“We celebrate a girl’s birth more than a boy’s in our household. Neither my father nor my grandfather have ever yelled at a lady. I have accepted that as my fate, and I think whatever must happen will happen,” Shami remarked.
