Shakib Al Hasan was included in the 15-man team for Bangladesh’s opening Test match against South Africa, but it is unlikely that he will play in the series. It was Shakib’s wish to play his last Test match in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
He first appeared to be planning to play the game, but for security considerations he changed his mind. The start date of the preparation camp is set for October 18. Shakib is not currently showing up at the venue, according to a BCB official.
“He (Shakib) is not coming today, that is for sure,” the BCB official said, according to the interview.
For those who are unaware, Shakib was one of 156 individuals mentioned in the formal complaint over the alleged murder of a student during the country’s political unrest, which ultimately resulted in the overthrow of the Awami League government he represented in parliament. The incident took place following Shakib’s election victory in his native Magura.
