The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement on Sunday, December 15, that legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be permitted to bowl in domestic or international contests organised by national federations that have been sanctioned by the ICC.
The BCB stated that this was the inevitable next step after the former captain of Bangladesh was recently suspended for bowling by the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for an improper action.
In order to have his action cleared and his punishment lifted, Shakib will shortly appear for a reassessment at an accredited testing facility, the board also said.
Shakib was reported for a questionable action during an English county cricket match in September, and earlier this month he failed an independent assessment test of his action at Loughborough University, an ICC-accredited testing institute in the UK.
Shakib Al Hasan, an all-rounder for the national side, has been banned from bowling in events run by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been notified. Shakib is consequently barred from bowling in both international and domestic cricket contests outside of Bangladesh, according to the BCB statement.
“Should the results of this [reassessment] analysis clear his action, Shakib will be permitted to bowl in international cricket and in domestic cricket competitions under the jurisdiction of all national cricket federations,” it stated.
Shakib Al Hasan is currently allowed to participate in all domestic and international cricket competitions as a batter.
In effect, the 37-year-old is no longer playing Test or T20I cricket. He is still a member of Bangladesh’s ODI team, though. Over his career, Shakib has participated in 71 Test matches, 247 ODIs, and 129 T20Is. at the September–October second Test match against Bangladesh at Kanpur, he made his final appearance for the Bangla Tigers.
At the moment, Shakib is competing in the Lanka T10 tournament. He hasn’t bowled, though, in the Galle Marvels’ last two games, including the one on Sunday night.
