IPL 2023: Shakib Al Hasan declines to play in the 16th season owing to personal obligations

Shakib Al Hasan, an all-rounder for Bangladesh, has also decided not to participate in the current edition and has joined the list of players who will not appear in it. Season 16 of the Indian Premier League has begun, and the first five games of the competition have provided fans with some exciting action. While several well-known athletes are participating in the T20 spectacular, a few are also unable to do so because of injury or national obligations.

The selection for the lone Test against Ireland, which will begin on April 4 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, recently included Bangladesh’s Test and T20I skipper. At the mini-auction conducted in December 2022, the Kolkata Knight Riders paid INR 1.50 crore to acquire the 36-year-old.

Yet, according to a Cricbuzz source, the star all-rounder has formally informed the KKR team of his absence for the full campaign. His absence from the important competition was reportedly due to obligations on a personal and international level.

Meanwhile, Litton Das, the only Bangladeshi player in KKR, is anticipated to join the team following the conclusion of the Test match with Ireland. Prior to the conclusion of the limited-overs series against Ireland, which ended on March 31, KKR believed that both Litton and Shakib Al Hasan would be eligible.

The two could only join the IPL franchise after the match; it became evident when they were included in the Test team. Importantly, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had previously informed the BCCI that its players would only be available for the IPL from April 8 to May 1 for a short period of time.

On April 10, Litton Das will join the KKR team.

According to the source, Shakib Al Hasan has withdrawn from the season due to some personal obligations with his family, who reside in the States. According to reports, Litton, who was acquired for his base price of INR 50 lakh, has confirmed his availability beginning on April 10.

Shakib Al Hasan played with KKR from 2011 to 2017 and participated in their successful seasons in 2012 and 2014 before transferring to Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. As KKR reached the season’s final in 2021, after seven years, he returned to the team once more.

The hero from Bangladesh has participated in 71 games in the competition so far, amassing 793 runs at an average of 19.83 and recording two half-centuries. Moreover, he has taken 63 wickets at a 29.19 average and a 7.44 economy.
