Shaheen Stands by Haris Rauf Amid Controversy

Pacer Shaheen Afridi was questioned about Rauf and Farhan’s gestures prior to Pakistan’s final Super Four match against Bangladesh. Afridi said that the team’s main responsibility is to play cricket and that celebrations on the pitch shouldn’t take precedence. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, the left-wing quick said, downplaying the outrage around Pakistan’s actions.

The Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Pakistan in the Super Fours on September 21 proved to be more than just a cricket match between bat and ball. Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan’s on-field antics generated a lot of social media response, with many commentators and supporters denouncing the pair for their crude and inconsiderate acts.

“Look, playing cricket is what we do. To be honest, everyone is free to express themselves anyway they like. Everybody respects themselves. Everybody has their own style of thinking. But playing cricket is what we do. We’ve arrived to triumph in the tri-nation series. To win the Asia Cup is our goal. According to NDTV Sports, Shaheen stated, “And we, God willing, as a team, are doing our best.”

Shaheen is certain that Pakistan will defeat India in the championship match.

Although the finals have not yet been announced, Pakistan’s pace leader said he is confident his team can defeat India in Sunday’s title match. While acknowledging that Pakistan has recently had difficulty defeating highly regarded teams, Shaheen emphasised that the players are committed to changing that.

“They still haven’t advanced to the final. When they get to the final, we’ll see. Our goal in coming here is to win the Asia Cup and the final. Whatever squad shows up, we’re prepared. We’ll beat them. Indeed, we haven’t triumphed over formidable teams. We have risen in the rankings, if you will. However, you win when you play against strong teams. We are competing against the teams that are currently arriving,” he continued.

The Men in Green have already suffered two straight losses against India in the current continental tournament, which is worth mentioning. However, the competition final, which will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 28, may bring the two bitter adversaries together once more.
