Ahead of the three-match series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan’s ODI captain, Shaheen Afridi, has delivered a message to his teammates. The ODIs between Pakistan and their Asian foes will start in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, November 11. In their most recent series victory against South Africa, Afridi has pushed his team to continue building on their winning momentum.
Shaheen Afridi first series as Pakistan’s ODI captain was against South Africa, and he got off to a strong start, leading his team to a 2-1 series win against the Proteas.
After a lackluster showing at the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year on home soil, the victory represented a welcome return to form for Pakistan in 50-over cricket. Afridi emphasized that his team must be consistent as they continue to grow as a cohesive unit.
The victory over South Africa in the series in Faisalabad gave us a lot more confidence. I was quite delighted of the guys’ collective play and response to various circumstances throughout my debut series as ODI skipper.
“The teamwork, energy, and intent were exceptional,” Shaheen Afridi told ICC.
“We want to maintain that winning momentum going into the Sri Lanka series. We want to ensure that we continue to improve as a team in every department and establish consistency in our performances. The people of Sri Lanka are disciplined and constantly test your abilities. We must remain optimistic, follow our plans, and play good cricket. The objective is to continue growing as a group and to continue providing our supporters with performances of which they can be proud,” Shaheen Afridi continued.
Every member of Pakistan’s team should be accountable for their performances in 50-over cricket, according to Shaheen Afridi, who also stated that older players shouldn’t always be the only ones in charge.
“Every player needs to accept accountability. We should all try our hardest; Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar, Babar, and Saim are not responsible for it. Even the guys who aren’t performing should be supported, and we should always have faith in our ability to work as a team,” Afridi remarked.
