Regarding Pakistan’s ODI team, Shaheen Afridi has discussed his new role. Shaheen Afridi took over as ODI captain lately after Mohammad Rizwan did. The decision was made following a meeting between Mike Hesson, the white-ball coach, and the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee.
In addition to discussing his feelings on being fired as the T20I captain, Shaheen Afridi revealed how much he takes pride in leading Pakistan. As ODI captain, he also emphasized how important it is to him to lead by example and improve the team’s performance in the format.
“I consider it an honor to be the nation’s leader. While playing, even, donning the national colors
is always a matter of pride, but now that you are captain, you also feel more accountable. Serving Pakistan cricket and carrying out our assigned duties are our responsibilities. We accept that management makes the decisions about who gets to be in charge. According to Shaheen Afridi , who was cited by Geo News, “My focus right now is on improving our One-Day cricket and leading the team from the front.”
Pakistan enters the all-format series’ ODI leg fresh off a 2-1 victory in the 20-over series and a tied two-match Test series. On November 4, 6, and 8, all three of the ODI series’ games are slated to take place in Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium.
Shaheen Afridi participated in both Test matches against South Africa and came away with respective match stats of 4/48 and 1/95.
Despite not playing in the second Twenty20 International, the left-arm pacer was costly in the first one (1/45 in 4 overs). In the third game, he performed far better, scoring 3/26 in four overs.
The 25-year-old’s most recent ODI appearance was in August of this year. Shaheen will serve as Pakistan’s captain for the second time. After just five T20Is as captain, he was passed over. After Babar Azam had a poor 2023 World Cup campaign, Shaheen has taken his place.
