Shaheen Afridi dropped from Pakistan's 12-man squad for the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in 2024

The former Australia international claimed that after speaking with Shaheen Afridi management, the bowler understood why he had been left out of the second Test. After taking just two wickets in the opening Test, he received some feedback as well.

The 12-man Pakistani team has been revealed for the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium second Test against Bangladesh. As head coach Jason Gillespie said, ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been dropped from the game. The cricketer is “working on some things” to enhance his game.

Mir Hamza and Abrar Ahmed returned to the squad, as the hosts intend to employ spinners more often following the first Test’s 10-wicket demolition. The fact that they are back with the team suggests that the game will take place on a surface similar to this one, with a big role expected of the spinners. As for the squad, Gillespie said that it was chosen in light of the circumstances and that more assessment will be done before deciding on the starting eleven on August 30.

“Abrar Ahmed was added to the 12-person squad after we evaluated the circumstances. Cricket Pakistan cited Gillespie as stating, “We haven’t seen the pitch yet; we’ll assess the conditions tomorrow morning.”

Gillespie provided an update on Shaheen Afridi, who became a father lately.

“This game was missed by Shaheen. He totally understands and accepts the reasoning behind it, based on our productive talk. There has been some feedback for Shaheen. In order to be as successful as he can be bowling, he is working on a few things. He and Azhar Mahmood are getting along great. We want to watch Shaheen perform at his peak because he will be crucial to our success in the vast majority of our cricket matches across all forms, according to Gillespie.

In order to give Shaheen time to spend with his family, the 49-year-old said, he has been given a break. “The past few weeks have been interesting for Shaheen,” Gillespie remarked. “He just became a father. We believe there is a chance to let him depart and spend some time with his family as well,” Gillespie stated.
