Sediqullah Atal, Afghanistan’s youthful batting sensation, made a vital knock in the match that mattered most against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Lahore.
Sediqullah Atal, who was born on August 12, 2001, made a big impression on the domestic scene early on. On September 7, 2020, he made his T20 debut for the Kabul Eagles in the Shpageeza Cricket League. Prior to that, he played in two matches for Afghanistan at the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, scoring 59 runs.
He made his Band-e-Amir Region List A debut in the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament in October 2021. He was selected for Afghanistan’s ODI team for the 2021 series against Pakistan due to his steady domestic cricket performances.
However, the series was delayed because to Afghanistan’s political turmoil. The southpaw made his T20I debut against Pakistan in March 2023 after being included in the squad once more when the series was rescheduled as a T20I match in early 2023.
He was selected as a reserve player for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in May 2024. He made his breakthrough in October 2024 at the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, scoring 368 runs with a strike rate of 145 and an average of 122.66 in five games. He won Player of the Tournament for his efforts in helping Afghanistan A win their first championship.
He contributed significantly to the match versus Australia at Gaddafi Stadium in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Afghanistan’s innings was stabilised by his 85-run effort, but Spencer Johnson eventually got rid of him. He hit three sixes and six boundaries in his knock.
The IPL 2025 mega-auction did not sell Sediqullah Atal despite his outstanding accomplishments.
Because teams preferred more seasoned foreign players, he was unable to land a contract despite having a base fee of INR 75 lakh. If a team chooses to use him as an injured replacement, he still has a chance to play in the tournament. Atal has already played in nine ODIs, one Test, and nine T20Is for Afghanistan in all three forms.
