In the second ODI of the current series, Pakistan was dealt two blows by New Zealand.
Pakistan lost the match at Hamilton on Wednesday, April 02, and was also penalised by the ICC for keeping a slow over-rate in the first innings after winning the toss and choosing to field first. For this infraction, each player received a fine equal to 5% of their individual match fees.
Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees fined the visitors because they were one over short of the goal against the hosts. Captain Muhammad Rizwan entered a guilty plea to the charge following the game, negating the need for any court proceedings. It is difficult for the guests to complete the overs in the allotted time. The team was found guilty of the crime for the second time.
They also fell two overs short of the objective in the first ODI earlier in the series. Given the possibility of a future ban, the Men in Green captain’s performance in the third game will be vital. After winning the first two games and ultimately securing the series, the Kiwis are now ahead 2-0.
Not quite a century, but sufficient for BlackCaps
Mitchell Hay, who was still undefeated with 99 runs, assisted the squad in scoring a respectable total in the second game. Muhammad Abbas and Nick Kelly, two newcomers, enjoyed themselves with the bat as well. After being made to bat first, the Kiwis scored 292 runs in the first innings.
William O’Rourke drew the first blood when Pakistan batted, dismissing opener Abdullah Shafique in the third over. Babar Azam was removed by Jacob Duffy in the first ball of the fourth over shortly after he was dismissed. Pakistan was devastated by the wickets that continued to tumble. They were 65-6 at one point, but Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah came to their aid, and they managed to score 208 runs.
Ben Sears claimed a fifer after using the ball in a remarkable way. Despite being hammered for maximums and boundaries, he continued to take wickets on a regular basis. Jacob Duffy took three wickets as well. However, because of his exceptional batting effort in the first innings, Hay was named Player of the Match.
