"Realistic" Sean Abbott seizing the chance to improve Australia

Australia’s hero in the second One-Day International (ODI) against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Sean Abbott, said he has no intention of missing any more matches for his country. Given how difficult it is for him to get into the squad, the pacer wants to play in the last ODI in Canberra on February 6.

At the SCG, the 31-year-old had an excellent all-around effort. He batted down the order and came through to save Australia from 167 for 7, scoring 69 off 63 deliveries. The Steven Smith-led team scored a competitive 258 runs thanks to his knock. With outstanding figures of 3/40, the all-round bowler demonstrated his bowling prowess even further and assisted Australia in limiting the Windies to 175 in 43.3 overs. The hosts, who had already won the first game in the series, famously won the game by 83 runs and went on to win the series.

“I wish to play every game. It’s obviously a short turnaround, but that’s the price of playing cricket for your nation right now. I don’t want to stop playing a game. It is difficult to get into and much more difficult to stay on the team because some guys, including Pat Cummins and Starc, are resting tonight. I will not be giving up my seat to take a break if it is possible,” Sean Abbott was told by ESPNcricinfo.

Although his batting will improve the side’s performance, Sean Abbott is aware that Australia has productive pace options.

Additionally, he declared that he is making the most of this chance to strengthen his play and solidify his position on the team. “I’m not too unrealistic. Both the new players and some of the veteran players have demonstrated talent, as Sean Abbott is aware. I see it as a chance to keep striving to improve, and if I’m not playing, I figure that my encouragement will translate into their improving as well.

“The best thing you can do is keep showing up and improving if you’re not getting picked because other players are playing really well. I’ll take it; if guys are performing exceptionally well, I have no problem with it, but I’ll be working hard to take their place. He continued, “At the same time, I’m very realistic that we now have a really talented group of fast bowlers.
