Sean Abbott, a paceman for Surrey, stated that he is eager to give his all for the county team in order to earn a spot in Australia’s Test squad before the 2023 Ashes. For this summer’s County Championship and Vitality T20 Blast, which run through the end of July, the county club recruited the Australian pacer.
The team’s title defense got underway against Lancashire on Thursday, April 6, at Manchester’s Old Trafford. Abbott will, however, have his first opportunity to play in front of supporters at home on April 13 against Hampshire at London’s Kennington Oval.
The 31-year-old said in an interview that he will use this as a chance to wow the Australian selectors for the eagerly awaited Ashes series, which will be contested in mid-June. The man from New South Wales said that while he would prefer to concentrate on Test cricket, he had “no expectations.”
“Playing Test cricket is my dream and objective. I think my bowling has been really good. Despite the fact that our team is so strong, Sean Abbott reportedly said, “I certainly have no expectations, but I know I’m there or thereabouts in terms of one or two injuries.”
“If I perform well for Surrey, they might consider my skill set to be an advantage for this series. But I definitely don’t want that to be my main focus because then I’ll be drawn in and sidetracked. I just want to give Surrey my best effort, and I’ll take whatever comes,” he continued.

The Australian pacer, who played in just one game in 2021 because of a hamstring ailment, is about to don the jersey for the second time this season. Abbott enters the lineup in place of Jamie Overton, who had to sit out due to a stress fracture in his lower back. The 31-year-old will be an essential component of the bowling battery and will be striving for a standout season for the team, keeping in mind the upcoming Ashes.
