'Both players will simply tap to bite their tongue a little bit' - Scott Styris eager to witness Gambhir and Kohli's camaraderie under one roof

The Indian Premier League’s on-field verbal sparring between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir has made them the darling children of controversy. Known for their aggressive styles on the pitch, the pair first sparred during the 2013 Indian Premier League match between Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. When they faced off in the 2023 Indian Premier League match between the RCB and the Lucknow Super Giants—coached by Shivendra Singh—everything was looking up.

In the end, the former opener for India was appointed Head Coach of the Indian cricket team, and he will have the same dressing room as Virat Kohli.

The pair silenced all of the rumbles during IPL 2024 when they hugged and had a lengthy conversation. But former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris joked that the friendship between these two legends will stand the test of time.

Indeed, that is an excellent question. Hopefully, we can wait and see. Nobody can sit here, in my opinion, and predict whether anything will work out or not. I believe that both players will simply bite their tongues a little bit and monitor how, in Virat’s case, Gautam is looking to run the squad. Gautham will be looking to Virat for leadership so that he can aid all the younger players, according to a remark from Scott Styris that appeared in India Today.

“There are a lot of unknowns regarding that connection and how it would function in a team where two guys have two distinct levels of power within that group. In my opinion, they both are. They are both excellent cricket players, to start. They both have excellent cricketing minds. He continued, “I believe they’d both be astute enough to figure out how it can improve the team’s performance.”

On their first tour, Gambhir and Suryakumar do well in their new roles.

Before their trip of Sri Lanka, Team India announced Suryakumar Yadav as their new Twenty20 international skipper. India won two straight games to take a 2-0 lead in the three T20I series under Gautam Gambhir, who was also coaching for the first time. In preparation for the next ODI series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from the shortest format, arrived in the island nation on July 29.
